Why would the USB ports on my PowerLogix RapidFire card quit when I upgraded to OS 9.2 from 9.1 on my Beige G3 Mac ? It CANNOT be hardware, because I have two drives in this machine...the USB works fine booting in 9.1 on the very same machine, but the ports are stone-cold dead under 9.2.2 ( the FireWire works great on both drives, both systems ). Even my powered Belkins USB hub shows no response whatsoever...no indicator lights...like the USB is not there at all . I have deleted and reinstalled ALL the USB drivers ; done a clean install of OS 9.0-->9.1--> 9.2.2 ; moved the RapFire card to different PCI slots...everything I can think of. One clue: Logitech Mouseware Control Panel won't open...an alert box says " cannot find USBManagerLib " .

Any other ideas ?

Sure sounds like a software incompatibility. What I recommend may not be what you want to hear but here it goes...

Don't go to 9.2 unless you are going to put OS X on. If you are going to put OS X on, OS X will take care of it.

9.1 was my favorite pre OS X version.

One other question about the issue. If you have access to a thumb drive (those little keychain storage units), try that after a clean 9.2 and see if it will mount or give at least an LED light.
