I have always used Retrospect to backup my servers. Now I have OS X Server and I am beating my head against a wall.

One server will begin to backup and fail. Next day it will tell me that the backup did not complete because of a power failure or system crash. Neither of those things happened. This system is an XServe hooked up to an AIT-3 8 tape library. It backs up itself and another Xserve and an X Raid. Everything is updated as far as can be (software patches and firmware). As a note, it will succeed if I manually run the script.

The other system is a G4 (AGP Graphics) hooked up to an AIT-2 4 tape library. It will lock up Retrospect and the tape drive any time it tries to write to or erase a tape.

Has anybody seen this trouble?

Does anybody have a similar situation where they are using Bru? If so, how's it working?

Frustrated.

I've had trouble in the past using Retrospect with OnStream tapes/system; however, all those errors went away when I took the tapes out of the scenario and went straight to an internal backup HD on the Xserve...

I know that may not help you; however, I have seen Retrospect display some weird errors when using a tape system.

I had good luck until Retrospect 6. I'm backing up over a terabyte and have to go to tape.

I think I have one of the systems working (75% done and no errors) by reinstalling the original Retrospect 6 with no driver updates or patches. The other system is down and I am going to try Bru on it.

Hopefully I will get to quit baby sitting it soon.
