Getting MPlayer to work properly?

I can no longer get MPlayer to work properly on my mac. The extra app appears in the Dock but no 'movie' window is displayed, but the audio for it can be heard. I have removed Mplayer from my system (did a 'Find' and removed everything with 'Mplayer' in the title) and re downloaded it, it still doesn't work. If I select full screen, nothing happens.
Anyone got any idea what it going on? It used to work, I don't really want to go back to WMP to play WMP video files.

maybe now you're trying to play WMV3 files (for which MPlayer etc can play the sound but not the video)

That was it. Damb Microsoft updating there codec's, I have to use there crapy player now.
