You have to use IMAP or POP to get email off the Exchange server. This requires checking the mail (you can do this automatically, at your preferred intervals).

You cannot do email "push" notification using Microsoft's proprietary MAPI protocol. Microsoft doesn't support this with Exchange -- only with Outlook, which is a classic/OS 9 application.

NO. This makes no difference for mail access, at all.

Uh, bullsh*t. I do it every day. Live updates, no send/receive with my Exchange server EVER. Open the progress dialog and it's CONSTANTLY in use.

Maybe it's this:

Tools==>Accounts==>(double click the account)==>choose Mail==>select advanced receiving options==>check 'automatically synchronize Inbox with Exchange Server'

Also it may help to check the Advanced tab and check 'Synchronize all items with server'

Hope this helps.

Good. Now remove your IMAP accounts and see that it no longer works.

Entourage uses IMAP to connect to the server. It may just poll every 3 seconds, but it's not using the MAPI "push" protocol.
