My PowerBook G4's hard disk is beyond repair (DiskWarrior won't fix the directory)...it won't boot. I talked with the Apple Store who kept it overnight running Diskwarrior, and they say that a program like Data Rescue X might be able to (but no guarantees) rescue the data.

Given I'm a poor, struggling student, I don't have 85.00 to throw around at will. Can anyone recommend anything to me...or help me out? I am willing to paypal

Anything you can do to help me would be incredibly awesome, EVERY part of my life from essays to my thesis was on that drive.

I have lost drives with 8 months of work, so I feel your pain.

You can go to a drive DR but that will be upwards of $1,000.

The problem is, the more you mess with the drive, the more you might destroy the data that is on it.

With my drive, even though I was ready to hand over $1,200 to get back the data, it was unrecoverable and I had to move on.

It has been over a year since I had to re-do the 6 months of work and I can tell you it will get better, but it is not fun.

Back up. Back up. Back up. Test your back up. Back up. Back up. Back up.

I haven't messed with it at all outside of Diskwarrior attempting to repair the directory. Nothing has been overwritten. Suprnova seems to be a barren choice for software...can anyone help me via PM?

Piracy is bad and won't be tolerated here, even for noble circumstances.

You can download a trial of Data Rescue to see if it will work before shelling out the cash.

And just to hammer the point home: backup. Good luck.
