Hello
Ive upgraded my QT to QTPro as iMovie tells me that QTPro is needed to breakdown larger QT movies into 9 minute pieces to be available to iMovie.

so I got the QTPro, but can't figure out how to do this. It doesn't seem to say anywhere in the 'Help' files. My files are 30 minutes long and come from a AlchemyTV DVR card in my G4 dual ( a fantastic product!!!)

does anyone know how to do this?

thanks rotuts

1.) Open up the movie in QuickTime.
2.) Drag the arrows in the location bar to the beginning (left arrow) and end (right arrow) of the clip you want to take.

3.) Command-C to copy the clip; Command-N to create a new file.
4.) Command-V to paste the clip into the file.
5.) Now Use Command-E to export it. In the resulting dialog, choose the save location. Also, in the "Export:" dropdown menu, choose "Movie to DV Stream", and click Save.

thanks for your help. my ultimate goal would be to be able to import several of the indivudual QT clips ( the whole file after I edited out say comercials) into a single iMovie project where I can fine tune them and then make a DVD to save them when I have 2 hours of files.

iMovie is a huge (really, huge) waste of time for just cutting out commercials, if you have QTPro

the reason I wanted to go to iMovie was to join several of the QT files there and make a 2 hr DVD with iDVD once it got to working again for me

thanks

ok, the same goes for joining clips. iMovie really only has two uses; importing original content and adding effects to it (titles, transitions, etc). In order to perform these tasks at a decent speed, it renders all it's content into the DV format. If your movies aren't already DV, this will take a long long time. Then you piece together your movies (which you could do very quickly and easily with QTPro without re-encoding), it will want to re-encode again to commit all your added effects (which in this case you don't have). Anyway, encoding video to and from lossy formats like DV and whatever your movies are already in is something you want to avoid, because it takes forever and it reduces quality, hence the huge waste of time comment
