To avoid the flame throwers: I did a search and could not find the answer.. everything was on transfering files from entourage to Mail.

My question: I have several Mail accounts set up in my Mail application on my old ibook that I have long since forgot what the passwords were.

Is there a way of transferring MAIL accounts from my ibook to my new powerbook?

I found the MAIL folder in my library, and placed that in my user/library/mail file but the Mail application would only show my old emails.. NOT my accounts which is what I want to transfer.

Any ideas?

have you tried exporting mail from Entourage? Then importing using Mail.app?

Well, the settings for the accounts are located in Mail's preference file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist), but not the passwords; those are stored in your Keychain folder, also in Library.

I'm not sure whether it would work to transfer that to another computer, but maybe it's worth a shot. Perhaps try copying both the preference file and the keychain file to the proper locations on the new computer?

Yep.

You can getting the settings (everything except the passwords) by opening up Mail on your iBook and looking at Mail's prefs and copying things over

You can get your passwords by opening up the Keychain Access application and looking for/decrypting the appropriate passwords

I'd recommend against just copying the preferences and keychain files over because they'll overwrite your new Mail preferences and keychain (and might be from an older version of those applications and so not wholly compatible with the newer versions you're running)
