The reason there are so many threads is because everyone is looking for something different and there are many different ways to do it. Some want to back up their entire DVD, others want to be able to back up the DVD to a DVD-R, others want to transcode a DVD to a CD-R, some want to create VCDs or super VCDs, and yet others want quicktime movies or DivX moves...
So you can see, there is no sure fire way to write ONE way that everyone would enjoy.
There is also the issue of quality.
I could show you how to create a QuickTime movie in three steps for free or six steps that requires purchased software like QuickTime Pro etc.
The difference being quality, size, features, bla bla bla.
It's like someone trying to write one book on "the correct TV to buy" everyone has their own special needs.

actually QTPro is only required to mux video with audio, and if you're cheap you can do that with Sync-Hole

Ok so im using DVD backup, i found the DVD files and im "processing" them. Which file do I need to burn?
My files read as follows:

VTS_02_2.VOB
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_03_0.BUP
VTS_03_0.IFO
VTS_03_1.VOB
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_04_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_04_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_04_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_02_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_02_0.IFO
So what do I do with them now?

Go to DVDRHelp.com and look under the tutorials for Galactica's primer on how to copy a dvd to a dvd-r on a mac. That is the best way to learn.
