I sent this via the Feedback section on Apple.com. Let me know what you think.

------------

I love Safari. It has done an astronomical job in its' intention. I only have a couple problems that (hopefully) could easily be fixed. They both have to do with tabbed browsing.

I work for the Real Estate Book and when I am getting ad descriptions, I open about 20 ads in one window via tabs. Now, if by some accident, I click the main close button at the top left, all of those windows are completely gone *with no warning*. I think Safari asking, "You have multiple tabs in this window, are you sure you want to close them all out?" would be a god-send.
Also, I suggest that you allow us to be able to save the state of the current configuration of tabs. For example, if I have all those ad-tabs for my job open in one window that I know I'll get back to later, I'd go to File>Save current Window Tabs (or something of the like) and all the tab positions would be saved. A sheet would pop down (like when you save a bookmark) and ask you what you want to call the current configuration. The next time I logged in, instead of going through the time consuming process or command clicking on 20 links over multiple pages, I'd go to whatever menu (probably the bookmarks) and select the saved window configuration I had earlier, and BAM, there they all are! I know several people who agree with this line of thought. Of course, both Ideas could be activated or deactivated, so anyone could have it ether way, but it would definitely help… a lot. Thanks for your time and keep up the damn good work.

That would be great. I did that by accident over the weekend while bidding on eBay for a few things. :/

Sounds like a nice idea. I'm glad command-w closes the tab and not the whole window since I've used that out of habit many times.

Command-Z to undo what I type or delete in a text box would be nice. Oh, and "copy image location" in the contextual menu would be nice, too. That's about all I want.

It is a good idea. I believe omniweb does this?

By the way MAC GOD, you don't need the apostrophe after 'its', it's a quirky rule but there you go. Sorry to be pedantic.

Sorry, I was trying to denote the pronoun's ownership... I'll watch that...

Glad I'm not the only one who wants that stuff.

As monkeybrain hinted, this is all stuff that OmniWeb 5 does, and does very well.

The workspaces system allows you to have OmniWeb memorize a set of open windows/tabs and simply by switching your workspace it beings up different configurations. You can even have it save-as-you-go so that you can switch away, and then back and you will still have exactly where you were.

This feature is also use in case you crash, OmniWeb simply bring up the windows/tabs you last had open.

And if you have more than on tab open and hit the close button it brings up a sheet asking if you would like to close just the top tab, all tabs, or cancel. There are even shortcuts to get around this.

And there are so many other features (site preferences, their own tab system, in place editing, etc...) that make OmniWeb a great experience.

Hmm... I'll have to check it out... I kinda hate to do that because I have SO many sites I am a member of, and having to retype all that in will be a biatch. BUT, who knows, maybe its what I need... Thanks!

Great ideas!!! I would suggest submitting feedback to Apple on those idas THE MAC GOD. I too have accidentily closed all of the tabs before and that is annoying.

My one added contribution to it would be to add an option to the prference pane under tabs to allow me to set it to open new links i clink on in a new tab. I know you can do this by pressing the apple key while clicking on the link but there have been times when it would have been handy to do it on it's own.

I also thought that if you have multiple tabs and you are in one that any window you open as a new tab should create a subtab under that link so you can open related tabs to the primary tab and be able to sort that way. Sounds like ti is busy but I sometimes need to do alot of browsing and that would make my life far simplier Think running an ebay business and having many different auction opens and leaving feedback, sending invoices, etc. Hard to find at the end of a bunch of other tabs.

It's funny that you say that... most of the links I click on, I tab anyway, so having an option that reverses the command button (ex- command clicking would open a new window, while regular clicking would tab) is a great idea. Also, everything in my first post on this thread I submitted.

Another problem I have with Safari...

When you have tabs open, if you have a movie loading in one of them, like a trailer, but that tab isn't the foremost tab, it ceases to load until it is the selected tab. Now, if you open it up in a window, it will load in the background. THAT irritates me. It should load no matter what. Also, what's the point in having tabs if you have to wait for a graphic intensive tab to load before Safari becomes responsive again? Damn the beachball.

about the reversing the default for opening in a tab, try this. drag a link to the tab bar and it will open it in a tab. i sometimes do random webbrowsing and my left hand is holding my head up and my right is on the mouse. command clicking would require me to move my left hand. yes i can be *that* lazy.

Are you positive about this? I'm sure I routinely load movies in inactive tabs just fi ne..

Yeah... on several Macs... Open a window in Safari... Go to apple's trailers site... open several movies in windows and make sure they start to load... then on whatever tab is frontmost, navigate to some other site and do whatever... then go back to the other tabs and noticed the load bar haven't moved.

Good point about dragging the links mdc. I guess I should've tried that but that would have required thinking which makes me lazier than you

As for the tailer loading. I noticed a while back. What also drives me nuts about that is if a webpage hangs, but is still loading, if you are loading several other tabs at once they all slow way down. Again, as mentioned, if you open seperate windows this doesn't happen.
