Hello
My main mac is a Dual G4 1gz. I had a G3 300mhz that was not being used.
I decided to use it for word processing and plain data management. it had a 30 GB partitioned HD in it, and I wanted to repartition it back to a single HD.
built up OX 10.3 to .3.1 to 3.2 to 3.3
then I added my photoshop elements, no problem
Toast 6 in cluding the 6.0.3 updated did not accept my serial # in this case after carefully typing it in, it never gave the the 'blue' buttom for the 'OK' that button was not highlighted.
Office for X let me type in all the blocks of numbers, but then said that was an invalid #
both of these I own. there are on the G4, but maybe you can't put them on 10.3.3? and ahve to enterthem on a more primative OS?
where in what file ( visible or invisible) does this info exist on my G4 and can I just find this file and 'move' it over to the G3?
I do after all own these and ther were on the g3 at one point but that got lost with the repartition.
anyhelp appreciated.

I know for sure Office will look on your local subnet for other machines running a copy of Office with the same SN. You're SOL, sorry.

Until you block access to those ports...

Yes say port 2222 but I think you should read the microsoft end user licesnce agreement as I think the only way to have office installed on more than one computer is if one is a desktop and the other is a laptop. Again, I am not sure so read carefully because I don't know what version you have (educational or whatever) and whether you want to violate the agreement.

This was covered in a previous thread... the recent MS Educational license may say you can install the software on more than one computer, but you can only run it on one computer at a time. One of the sneakier license provisions, if you ask me.

Yea I remember reading that thread, but couldn't remember what it was called to refer the original poster to it. I have license from my school and only have one mac so I have never been too concerned with the details. Well not until I buy a laptop this summer but that shouldn't be an issue.

Sneaky?!?
The "install many times, but only run once" license is an established concept that's been around on the Mac for over 10 years.
The fact is, by buying one license, you have paid for the right for one copy to be used, regardless of where you've installed it. If two people are using it, you need two licenses.

For one thing, in Toast, have you completed all the fields? I don't think it will let you not enter a name. (A rather common requirement.)
As for Office... try it again, making sure there's no confusion with O's and 0's (the letter and numeral, respectively), L's and 1's, etc.
And be sure you're logged in as an adminstrator. You may not be able to enter the codes as a regular user.

Toast also usually has a space after the end of the serial number.

Sorry, I should have been more precise. The sneaky thing is that, especially in Educational contexts, they actually advertise that it can be used on multiple computers - I think that other thread actually said that the guy bought it because the advertising said he could put it on up to three computers, but it was only when he was getting the license shutdowns that he read the fine print and found out that while he could install it on three computers, he could only run it on one computer at a time.
What these companies (and the campus computer stores by extension) are doing is perfectly legal -- I doubt anyone ever specifically told the guy he could run more than one instance at a time -- but is sneaky, because people don't really understand what it is they're buying until after they open the package (and can't return it!). It's not the license terms themselves I have an issue with, it's how they're typically presented.
