Just to let people know, Camino 0.8 is gearing up for beta release and is actively being developed once more.
Here you will find an unofficial build with the new tabs that will be in the post 0.8 builds. Not only are they spiffy, but they also have the added side effect of makiing scrolling quicker.

Well I like them - they've taken the best bit of Safari and added fav icons to the tabs.

I think what we're seeing here is the negative result of Apple releasing tabs that look really really bad in some programs. The ideal solution would be for the Adium people to package up the tab code in something easy to use (something that my friend and I are working on) and put it under a BSD or LGPL license (something we can't do). Not sure how feasible that is though.

Edit:
Wow, is it just me, or does this latest build of Camino seema lot faster than the previous? Snappy™ indeed!
But look what it did to the poor MacNN edit page:
http://mindfad.com/boards/caminoscrewup.jpg
I *reallY* like this build. I moved from Camino to Safari, but this is tempting me to jump back!
My complaints: Not digging the close tab Xs. They look a bit thin (being one pixel in length and all), especially compared to Safari's close tab buttons.
Also, while I like the magnifying glass for zooming in and out on oversized images viewed in a window, the ability to hold shift and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to scroll horizontally—as in other apps—should be in there! It's not.
Other than that so far, kick ass! I've always dug Camino.
It has the best feature ever, of course:
Safari really needs that.
Edit 2: OK, it has that bug from earlier Camino builds, where the hand cursor will stop working when you mouse-over a URL. Don't know whata causes it. I have to click and drag a URL link (while not actually activating it) to get the cursor to start appearing again.

There are some known issues, and quite a few things were caused by Apple breaking things - which will be fixed in 10.3.4.
If there's anything you think is wrong or could be done better they are very happy to have more contributors, even for things like UI graphics

Well 0.8 will be the last release with the old tabs, then they're going to jettison 10.1 support and some other barnacles such as the old clunky tabs

The 'potential new" tab bar for Camino will be fully theme-able. When we start shiping nightlies with the tab bar, I will publish a document describing what images to modify and how everything is displayed. You will see that it's really easy to make a new graphic for it.
But we aren't there yet. The plan is to also add re-arranging of tabs and fix all the bugs that come with drag and drop support of urls and tabs. It will be very nice, but we need some time to perfect it some more.
So for now just enjoy the upcomming .8 release, which is way way better and mature then .7.

the only thing that bugs me about Camino is that it is a Cocoa app, but they are using some other widget set to draw form elements, so you don't have the spell checking or anything like that on form elements.
I *swear* one version of 0.7 I downloaded had the Cocoa spell checking enabled on the form input elements... but I did some checking and I guess it never has had it yet. Must've been a dream.
Drop-down menus are still a little funny looking, but getting better. Looks like they are trying to copy Safari drop-downs but still did not do a very good job of it. Better than they were in 0.7 though.... but still they are very slow to render the option you choose.

Camino needs pull-down menus in the "back" and "forward" buttons so you can navigate to sites recently visited. Such a basic option for browsers... Love the new tabs.

This is a known issue, and it's being worked on.

Those icons are dreadful. Nothing beats the simple elegance of the early 0.4 builds (and earlier if my memory serves correct). I'm still using the icons from the 0.4 builds on any newer version of Camino. Those tabs are awful as they look like a bastardized rip from Safari.
Functionality aside, the new Camino is horrid to look at. Ugh. They took the simplest yet best looking user interface and made it needlessly more complex and ugly.

Agreed.
As far as the tabs go, I hated the Aqua tabs, but now I like that they now resemble Safari, but the design of the tabs aren't so hot. I would like them to have a flat look to them.

They will be fully themeable eventually so this is a total possibility...

Doh! In classic OS 9 fashion, I failed to notice the "Camino" menu.
Thanks, GoRickY!

I don't get it. Why is Mozilla.org supporting development of two different stand-alone browsers (Camino and Firefox)?

Well, Camino is OS X only has OS X only features, more OS X like.
Firefox is on windows and linux(?) too less OS specific.
BTW: I can't get that tabsbeta to download, anyone else willing to host it or send it to me?
