I was testing out dvd2onex on a DVD. i followed a basic guide and fit a full 7.8GB disc to a 4.4 GB DVD disc. however the quality was so poor i felt like i was watching an illegally downloaded video at times. (by the way the bitrate was set to constant)
any ideas why this may be? i usually hear good thing about this. when it compress does it reduce quality or just shrink the file?
thanks for the help.

I've only compressed one 8.5GB disc to 4.7 but the quality was rather good with dvd2onex. However, I did not put the entire dvd on the disc. I left out the other languages, subtitles, and extra features. All I put on was the main DVD menu and the movie in english.

i was hoping copying dvds to a dvdr would result in better quality than a divx or mpg or avi style of movie. so far i see no benefit of spending money on dvd discs if the quality is low. thats ok ill keep trying more discs, maybe this movie was bad? maybe i messed up?
any ideas on teh differences between constanta dn variable bitrates?
thanks!

I've copied a few DVDs using DVD2oneX and the quality was superfluous. Excluding all the menus and extra languages definitely helps...

DVD movies are variable bit rate normally, so it's possible that setting it to constant redid the entire movie down to a poor quality bitrate.
As others said, remove everything you don't need. Menus, extra 5.1 tracks, languages, etc...
Should be interesting to see if one could do a 2 DVD to 1 DVD conversion when the dual layer burners come out. I dislike the need to swap discs when watching the extended Lord of the Rings, and have no need for both a DTS and Dolby 5.1 signal on the same disc.

As the others have said, I don't think it's a dvd2onex issue, but rather your settings.
If you are trying to convert the entire 8GB dvd down to a 4.4GB dvd-r, without removing director comentary tracks, alt. languages etc. you need to be realistic. The quality would be horrible.
Try what the others have said and post again. I've only heard great things!

I second that notion.

I've had pretty good luck with most titles. Harry Potter wasn't one of them though. The quality just lacked.
