Well, like the topic says, Butler (formerly known as Another Launcher) has all of a sudden become very slow for me. It takes several minutes just to start up, then it works for a few seconds, and then pretty much locks up again. The thing is I don't know what causes the problem, I can't think of anything that I've installed lately that would affect Butler in any way. I tried putting it in the exclude lists for all my APEs, aswell as deleting all of Butler's preferences.
Does anyone know of any apps that have known conflicts with Butler, or anything else that might cause this? It's one of those must-have apps for me so it's really important that I get it working again
Thanks,
Cerbero

Fire that old butler (hah!) and get Quicksilver. To answer your question more accurately, I would have had to have used Butler before... Unfortunately I haven't, I'm a Quicksilver fan. If it's more of a must-have functionality than a must-have dependency on Butler itself, I'd consider switching to Quicksilver.

If you were referring to my response then here you go: Butler, as I've heard, competes with LaunchBar and QuickSilver as, like the original poster commented, a "launcher" of sorts. I am familiar with the fact that each one has its own strengths and unique features whose specifics I am unsure of, but whose existence I am positive.
The original poster never mentioned that he relied on Butler for any specific reason other than it is a "must-have" application to him. So if the original poster merely uses Butler to launch applications then this "must-have" application could be easily replaces with one of the other said applications.
If, however, the original poster relies on some special feature of Butler that is unseen in the alternative application launcher utitlies, then he should be using Butler and, unfortunately, I don't know what to tell him.
Quicksilver's developer has a forum on their website which details lots of problems and solutions users are having... Maybe Butler's website provides a mailing list or a forum?

Well, I didn't get a solution for the Butler problem, but I did try out Quicksilver, and I'm gonna stick with it. I've never really given it a shot before, thinking typing in apps' names for launching sounded unintuitive. After actually trying it though, I can see that it's quite the opposite. So thanks for the tip [APi]TheMan, and thanks to the rest of you for trying to help.

Good call. Also, check out the forums for QuickSilver... if you find any funky problems in Quicksilver, the forums probably discuss a solution.
