I just emailed Indeo and received the following reply .... (it's regarding their Indeo codec to encode a lot of AVI's. The plugin/codec WAS available for OS 9, but not for OS X ....

*below is the reply email from Indeo*

Thank you for your inquiry regarding an OSX version of the Indeo codec(s) for the Macintosh platform. Although we are always evaluating the market potential and technical requirements to port Indeo to the OSX architecture,we have no plans to do so at this time. Due to our license with Intel, weare not able to pass along source code or Indeo development tools to outside parties, so a third-party development effort is not possible.

We encourage you to contact Apple directly with your request, and make your desire for a native OSX implementation of Indeo known to them. We are definitely interested in a partnership with Apple to bring the codecs to their platform, and we have contacted them in the past about updating Indeo, but to date they have shown no interest. A serious commitment from Apple to have Ligos develop the codec for their platform and customers would be a necessary first step to make this project happen.

I think it's ridiculous that these people are stopping support, but at the same time, I think there are too many codecs out there already. Don't worry, stopping mac support is usually the first sign that they are also going to be stopping Windows support as well

I hope they die off...
