Howdy
I'm new to the world of macs having spent years on pc's. My question is this. I have just downloaded MSN 4 for the mac as I have lots of friends on pc's that I want to chat to and convert. I have run the download that upacled something and then it placed a "CD DRIVE" looking icon on my desk top and the MSN icon in the dock. Now when I restart the MSN icon is no longer in the dock and I have to click "Messenger400.1.dmg" to get that CD drive icon back and get MSN running again. How do i do it so that it is just installed and will start up in the dock each time I start up?

Cheers in advance..

Floyd

Drag it to your Applications folder, and then create the shortcut in the doc. As is, it's getting unmounted and the shortcut in the doc points to nowhere.

First welcome to the mac community. Hope you enjoy it

As for your question, that .dmg file is a disk image. It's the file format usually used for pacaking apps on OS X. The best way I think of describing it right now is as a more advanced version of a zip file. To install the MSN app to your hardrive just select and drag the icon that's in the mounted disk image (the cd drive as you ferred to it) and drag it anywhere onto your computer. You'll see it copy and voila(sp?) it's installed on your hardrive Hope that helps you.
