As some of you may know Camino, the native gecko-based browser is near beta for the 0.8 release. This will be the last release to support Mac OS X 10.1, so we need 10.1 users to test this beta carefully and report bugs, so we can correct them in time for the release.
Grab you're copy of Camino here

I must agree. I can understand 10.2.8 people holding out, but seriously, 10.1 people...
10.1 people are loving their IE 5...

The new tabs are a post 0.8 feature - once 10.1 support is jettisoned, new features will find their way into nightlies.

Just a question. Why the decision to drop 10.1? Are you using components of X.2/X.3, or is just because support three OSes is too much of a pain?

Because we will use componenet only available in os X 10.2 and above.

Totally reasonable.
If you are on 10.1, you obviously aren't trying maximize your CPU, so stick with what you are currently using.
If you were dropping 10.2 support, I'd probably say it's a premature move, but once 10.4 is out, I bet you wills tart to see 10.2 support drop.

This whole testing thing is quite amusing:
1. Tiny percentage of OS X users still using 10.1 (I assume)
2. Relatively small number of all Mac users using Camino
Therefore, a tiny number multiplied by another small number equals very little. However, someone feel free to prove me wrong.

I will 10.1 users don't have access to Safari, they Have an aging IE which has not been updated for a while. They Have mozilla or FireFox, which I doubt is tested on the platform and they Have Camino. SO yes the number is small, but in % I think much more 10.1 users use a Mozilla based browser then 10.2 and 10.3 users.

Well I see your (quite valid) point, but in my experience people who see no advantage in upgrading their copy of OS X, are also of the opinion that IE 5 suffices for their browsing needs.

But more and more ssite do not display properly/do not work with those old IE versions. So they'll need to upgrade one day. Hence I'm asking them ddo to it NOW so we can give them the best.

I stuck with 10.1 at home until Panther came out. Jaguar just didn't offer anything particularly compelling to me. But really, I never thought IE 5 was sufficient for anything but making sure the Trash works properly. I used Camino.
