So Im wondering if there is a free app for playing real media movies. I did a searchon here and dont think I quite have the hang of asking the right questions as nothing really turned up. I looked on Real webby site but can only see a subscription player... is this all there is for OSX users?

Cheers

It's there, but Real does its best to hide it to get people to buy the subscription version. Pick one of the servers on this page.

I've never seen a company hide the free player in the same way as Real.

What a bunch of children.

Yeah it does seem abit petty. In my 'Windows' days I remember it was hard to find but easier to find 'copies' through google because I knew what I was looking for.

The link above will sort me out nicely though!

What also highly annoys me is that they refuse to create a QT component of their codecs. Just as WiMP refuses to do. WHY????

QT is just like directshow under windows, and they have directshow components for windows...

A player is something different then an API when are those developers gonna realize that.

They're just pissy because Apple refused to make the iPod compatible with their store.

I think it's a hoot.

I seem to recall Real having a QT encoder in beta testing, I don't know if it's only an encoder or if it will also decode.

Does Apple make Quicktime available as a native component of Direct Show? If not then why should anyone expect Microsoft to make WM a native component of QT?

They don't and that's bad too.
