Hi

I was just wondering. You have all your photos in the library of iPhoto, some 3000+ images, using smart album you tell it to sort all photos between 2 dates into a titles folder.
I now have a smart folder with said photos in. Has iPhotos copied these photos or is it just linking them from the library?
Basically I want to make sure that when I make folders/smart folders and drag photos from the library into these folders that Im not doubling up images and wasting disc space. After dragging photos into folders from library I am able to see the photos in both locations.

Cheers

p.s. Lets hope I got the right forum this time!!

I've dug into the iPhoto Library from the Finder (not recommended, but just out of curiosity), I saw that all my albums use aliases to the photos that are stored in dated folders elsewhere. You're not duplicating the pictures for each album, whether it's smart or "dumb."

Arr right. Thanks very much!
I'm slowly getting the hang of everything. After 10+ years on a PC I find I keep forgetting to quit programs and havent got the hang of looking in the library.

Cheers mate

Here are a couple of documents that you should be aware of concerning iPhoto.

iPhoto Library description - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61262

iPhoto Library Don’ts - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=150151

Also, if you edit an image in an album, all occurrences of that image in other albums and in the main library will reflect your editing. If you remove an image from an album, it's only removed from that particular album. Remove (i.e. delete) a image from the main library, it's gone from all albums and the library.

Here's another extremely good place to get info and help - http://discussions.info.apple.com/We...mkma2.0@iphoto

Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.
