I'm confused.

Everyone's talking about how their copies of MS Office 2004 for Mac are shipping, giving their first impressions, yet there seem to be no published reviews, no official launch from Microsoft, and no announcement at Mactopia.

Can someone please tell us what's going on?

Not sure why MacTopia hasn't updated; however, Microsoft did mention the release at some event this past week (very quietly), as well as, confirming the delay in Virtual PC 7...

All versions of Office:2004 are shipping; except, the "Professional Edition" suite (which includes VPC 7 and is delayed), but that is due I believe in late June/early July unless delayed again.

Yeah, I know I can order it. I'm just puzzled by the sort of muted reaction to it.
Where are the reviews?

The word from the MS support boards is that Office 2004 has not been "officially" released. Major publications are still under NDA. I do not know when the official release date is, but you can be certain that when it hits, you'll see lots of reviews.

Did you actually follow any of those links? Not one of those is a review.. The first link is a preview from January that says "most of the new functionality is under wraps" the rest are just places you can buy it from. I checked all the links in the first two pages. Just because a random series of words returns hits in google doesn't mean that the results are going to be relevant, unfortunately.

I agree, it is odd the complete and utter lack of press about this release. Maybe they are keeping quiet until the Pro version comes out? That's a long time though.

Thanks for posting this, I have been looking for a forum where there is more discussion than here about the new Office and I completely forgot that Microsoft has newsgroups.

How frustrating. I can order the product virtually anywhere, but there are no reliable and complete reviews to help me decide whether to order it or not. Apparently this is all due (at least in part) to NDAs that have poorly timed expiration dates!

I'd assume that since it's available to purchase, the office release has occurred. However, some magazines may wait to review the software until the Professional Edition is released with VPC7 including; which is available for preorder at many online retailers.

Here is a link to fellow MacNN users opinions on the software.

Dude, relax. I've been using it for a couple of days and I feel 2004 is a great upgrade. You can read more about it in the Microsoft Mac support forums here:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...lic.mac.office

You can also download the test drive and use it for 30 days from here:
