this happened on my albook, 15" 1.25 with 512 ram. i was working on a project last night, and when i tried to save to.jpg, i got the spinning disc and a lockup. hoping not to lose the file, i just let it sit. for about 10 mintutes. i had to get the job done, so i tried force quitting ps to start over. complete lockup though, and i couldn't even bring up other programs. so, i had to do a hard reset. of course, i lost the file. in addition to ps, i had only firefox and word running. several questions:
1. is this a problem for anyone else?
2. do you think more ram would prevent it from happening again?
this has only happened once, but i'm hoping it won't happen again. too much time can be lost. thanks for any input. if i forgot to mention anything, please ask!

512Mb is double the recommended RAM (for any one component), according to the box on my shelf. was this a seriously large, layered file? how much disk space is free?

i really can't see that being the problem then.
which version of OS X? does this happen with other Photoshop files, or just the one which locks up? can you force it?

thank you both for your replies. i'm running panther with all updates. it's only happened once (though i normally use my desktop for ps). and no, i couldn't force it.
gorickey, i think the ram allocation could have been the problem. checked the memory usage availabe for ps, and the default is 50%, or 219mb. since i don't have a scratch disk setup, it's possible that that was an issue. hmm...wonder if it'll run smoother now that i've increased it to 375mb, or 85%. again, thanks for the suggestions. guess i can only wait to see if it happens again.
