between office 2004 standard edition and student/teacher edition (beyond the price)

Nope.

Identical...except that Teacher/Student allows for "3 legal installs" compared to Standard's just 1 install...

Are you positive that they are identical???? (with the exception you noted)

Also not upgradeable. You would have to buy another full version or buy the student version again...

The programs themself are indeed 100% byte for byte copies/identical...all the other "install/rules" jazz may have some differences I'm unaware of that haven't been already mentioned...

Sheesh. That's not too bad - I already have Office v.X, but I purchased it well before Jan 2004, so I have to either purchase the upgrade or the student version. I could (almost) buy two student versions for the price of the upgrade.

The upgrade price is usually more expensive than the educational price, so no big loss there.
