what can you do to maximaze the performance of it?? Is it faster for little things like Yahoo messenger and msn messenger voice chat applications and just slow on the bigger programs and for browsing using Internet Explorer? Just wondering...btw, this pertains to using a 15 inch PB...thanks.

P.S. Asking because I want a Mac notebook but will still need certain programs that are Windows only....dont mind getting used to a new OS...thanks.

If I was you I would continue to do all my browsing through the Mac OS side, and completely neuter VPC from connecting to the internet. This way you wont have to bother updating your security patches (the PC OS is still vulnerable to viruses even though it is being emulated),

As for XP, I would go for 2000 or NT myself, as I found XP was too slow. If you do use make sure you turn off all the XP plastic looking eye candy.

Rumours also state that VPC7 might be a dramatic improvement, though this could be M$ propaganda again.

Hi!

I have got a PowerMac G4/MDD 1,25GHz (single cpu), and Windows XP is really slow on VPC6. Even the OS itself is slow, without using specific applications. I guess it won't be much faster on your machine. Win95 and 98 are OK, others I haven't tested.

turn off all the eye candy XP has, this is a major drag on the CPU which shows up even more so during emulation. Throw RAM @ VPC to speed it up and in my experience 2K runs the best.

I use it for Yahoo simply because its a way better app. The main IM apps on OSX are pure crap with proper rooms, categories and communities.

It runs well with W2k. I tried XP once and won't again unless MS VPC offers hardware graphics acceleration. The last two updates from Connectix were a con job.

VPC6 is just painfully slow using XP. I had it installed and I downgraded to Win 2K. I found it a much more acceptable solution

Win2k runs really nicely in VPC, better than win98 I find...XP is poo. waaay too slow.

BTW - don't bother trying to install longhorn in VPC, it doesn't work well it installs but then VPC says an unrecoverable processor error has occured on first boot up.

You can't eat all those hamburgers, you hear me you ridiculous man?

The thing I found about VPC is that the more RAM you can throw at it the better it likes it. If you have 1GB or RAM I would throw at LEAST 512 Megs at it. if you have less than that I would say anywhere from 384+

Also shut off all the eye candy.

I like to think of VPC as the transitional app.

You use it more initially, but over time you eliminate all PC apps from your requirements. I have one app to go from complete freedom, and this is on my current hit-list (I have the replacement but transferring files is a nightmare).

Check out 98 Lite.

It's slow but definitely usable, whereas I didn't feel Win 2000 or XP was.

Is there Windows 2k lite? Because that would be killer app for VPC.
