I have been hooking my Powerbook G4 (OS10.3) Entourage v.X onto my workplace Exchange-server account for about 2 weeks and it sort of works, but not well. I am curious if anyone knows the solutions to the following issues.
First, when I am offline with my Powerbook, like in an airplane or a coffeeshop, the Powerbook repeatedly tries to "dial in" using "Internet Connect" software, each time I open Exchange and every time I try to review or look at the email (copies that are now on my hard drive). Even if I shut down the Entourage option to synchronize automatically, it seems like Entourage still prompts the Internet Connect software, and it completely interrupts trying to read the messages or write new ones. This was not a problem when I just worked with popmail accounts at all.
Second, my Entourage calendar has gotten very strange since I started working on the Exchange system. "All day events," especially holidays, duplicate. Instead one little band across May 31 saying "Memorial day" it is now 7 bands across May 31 saying "Memorial Day". Some of my own scheduled events have duplicated too, but the phenomenon is most common with holidays. Since some of these holidays are unique to me (like Jewish holidays in a workplace where no one else follows them) it is a weird duplication process that seems unrelated to what other calendars in the system are doing.
Third, I have absolutely no capacity to keep any events private from the Exchange Server. Even though the options for the Exchange account have a toggleable option to NOT synchronize events in a particular category (e.g. "synchronize all events except for those in the category "Family", my Entourage program sets them all up on the server-based calendar, for everyone to see, anyway, ie despite my choice).
Finally, receiving all my email through the workplace server now means that I get tons of spam. I used to forward all my work and personal email to my personal, home-based Earthlink account (which was a popmail account) and Earthlink kind of labelled and blocked a whole bunch of the garbage. But now, getting it all forwarded to work and through the workplace server, I get to receive all these stupid spam messages.
Anyone know how to make Entourage play better with the Exchange server? The perpetual, unstoppable dialing out to server via Internet Connect and the rapidly multiplying holiday events are especially bad.
People who have compared Entourage v.X to Entourage 2004, please comment on whether the interaction with Exchange Server gets smoother.
