If you're an OmniOutliner user, do you have any hunch what's happened to Omnigroup's version 3.0 of Omnioutliner? It's been stuck in the current version for over six months - and the Omni folks had promised new features like links to files. Seems like a simple thing.

Thought I read several key Omni execs left so maybe things are a bit stuck.

Not sure; however, I'm sure one of the Omni people on this board will clear things up for you if they can/want...

Also, I'm thinking many of the resources have been dedicated to OmniWeb 5.0, eh?

I've gone to Circus Ponies Notebook for doing what I used to do in OO... it's a lot more flexible for me, and has things like dates for "to do" lists and scalability that OO doesn't have.

OO3 is a big upgrade. Attachment support is just the tip of the iceberg as far as new features go... there's a bunch of new import/export options, printing options, and new ways to integrate Outliner into your workflow. There's been a lot of improvement under the hood, including some stuff that'll really make your propeller-hat spin if you're an XML geek -- but that kind of low-level work requires a lot of thorough testing. And we're doing a major overhaul of the UI... which means we need to spend some extra time to make sure we do it right.

On top of that, the Outliner team has been affected not just by the focus on OW5, but also by a handful of staff shakeups over the past year, so the schedule has slipped a bit. (Only one "key exec" left, though... and since Wil was a UI designer, his involvement was mostly done with by the time he left.)

There's good news, though: our first round of external testing just started, and we'll be expanding to a public beta (or possibly jumping straight to the full release) in the not too distant future. We're close enough to that light at the end of the tunnel that you'll probably start hearing from our marketing people soon.

This is the only OmniApp that I have not bought.

I take notes. I take lots of memos on my Palm and would buy OmniOutliner in two shakes of a lambs tail if it either read/wrote to the Palm memo database or sync'd with the Palm.

I would too. Well, I've already bought v.2. I'd upgrade without a second thought if this happened.

Well, I can't say much, but I do see shaking lamb tails in your future.

Hmm, I guess I'll wait on buying Circus Ponies Notebook then. It does a decent job, but I'd like to see alternatives. I'm also not sure it's worth $50...
