I am installing it now but is there any other soft out there?
I am based in Europe (Copenhagen-DK) and does it make any difference?
Will Mac OS X .4 (Tiger) see a VoIP in iLife package?

Many questions... many answers?

in the winoz world there is http://www.skype.com/
it does not work with tel numbers yet...
Well are we again one step behind with our platform?...
Or do we have to stick to an iSight and the slave $oftware that goes with?...

Did you read the QuickStart guide?

You need a VOIP provider to use the software.

They allow you to interconnect with PSTN lines. (ordinary phones)

X-PRO is a software telephone. It has many of the features of a traditional business telephone, including call conferencing, multiple lines, and call transfer. Instead of making calls over the regular telephone network, calls are made over computer networks, either through your Internet Service Provider’s connection or through your local network. This is called Voice over Internet Protocol – VoIP.

Calls made to another Internet telephone, anywhere in the world, are generally free, while calls made to a regular telephone are generally much cheaper than traditional long distance calls.

Xten Networks, Inc. does not provide telephone service; only the software to use such services. See the section below on where to find a service provider.

2 Finding a Service Provider There are many VoIP service providers available. Some are listed on Xten’s corporate site at: http://www.xten.com/providers/

It is up to you to decide which service provider is best for you.
there's a bigger list here:

Du skal ikke forvente at se nogle former for telefon-software fra Apple de næste følgende år.. Det er et helt andet marked.

Nogle steder i KBH, i boligforeninger har de allerde IP-telefoni, så hvis du er i sådan en, så vil jeg anbefale dig at tage det op til næste rådsmøde!
Men ellers så er programmet Skype på vej til mac, det gør dig i stand til at lave tale-samtaler over internettet helt gratis, med andre brugere af samme program.

I use xten lite with free world dialup and nikotel (for connecting to pots).

Pretty good, but it doesn't work with the address book the way the old nikotel software did ie, click on address icon and it views all the info in the mac address book.

other than that, nice software.

Nikotel and SIPPhone both have Mac OSX implementations of XTen's SIP softphones. As of this date, the Nikotel version is a better release because it is able to save login data and system settings. The SIPPhone release has a bug and often won't save the login data forcing you to manually reenter your number and password each time.

BTW, it is possible to reconfigure the Nikotel version to use the SIPPhone servers.

I have been using the SIPPhone service to make both computer to computer and computer to regular landline phone from my Mac. Voice quality is quite good but you need broadband for it to work well.

www.sipphone.com and www.nikotel.com are the sites. It's great to be able to take part in VOIP using a Mac after sitting on the sidelines and watching the PC world have lots of software available and very little on the Mac side.
