Entourage 2004 CAN'T connect to any email server with a secure connection, even when option is checked.

Who should this be reported to? Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!

Hmm, strange. I am not behind a firewall either. It works in Mail, but not in Entourage, with any email account I try, it just stalls for a while, and an error pops up.

I have seen this problem with entourage X and a .mac account
I read somewhere that it has something to do with .mac's certificates [but I can't remember the details]

BTW
does entourage 2004 support S/MIME??

Damn, I'm not the only one. I get this all the time. I've trashed the prefs twice and just erased and reinstalled Entourage. I still can't connect to Earthlink. I keep getting this "A modem error has occured..." pop up. I sent a feedback to Microsoft.

Hmmm -- I'm sorry for your difficulties. Knock on wood -- I've had no problem whatsoever. I installed and everything came along just fine, upgrading everything without difficulty. (Connections worked immediately and all mail came along for the ride.) I waited a week or so and then uninstalled X.

Now, maybe I didn't read your post carefully enough. I have DSL -- were you using a dial-up connection?

I hope you solve your problems. When I upgraded to Panther I wiped my whole drive and and started fresh (I was reformatting to change the partitions). I somehow lost all my internet settings (using a router) and eventually had to buy a new router (the old one got fried!). It took several days to get everything up and running and it was very frustrating. So i understand what you're going through! But I'm afraid I cannot offer anything concrete to help.

Try deleting the user data folder in Documents as well

Users of ATT Worldnet service have this problem with Entourage 2004. The workaround can be found here:

http://www.wurd.com/cl_e-mail_entourage-2004-gia.php

But, expect future versions of Entourage 2004 to have the fix built in.

This has been documented over at macfixit.com.

It'd be nice for Microsoft to use that spiffy new autoupdate app included with Office 2004. That's why it's there.
You heard me! Sod off, Sadr!
