I've been having a lot of problems with importing video from my JVC camcorder into iMovie on my iBook (G4, 800MHz). It seems to only want to pull about 3 1/2 seconds of video from the camera at a time. There doesn't seem to be any problem with controlling the camera from the computer, and the video on the tape seems to be just fine too.

This is the version of iMovie that came with the iBook new in January 2004.

Any guidance? Should I have looked somewhere in the help that I've missed? Am I just a goof, or have I encountered a real problem?

Certain software/hardware is unable to recognize a JVC camcorder without digital signal being transmitted. To correct this, you can play the tape in the camcorder for a few seconds with digital connection already in place. This should help the computer software recognize that there is a camcorder connected. Any JVC digital camera released in 2000 or later equipped with a IEEE 1394 connection is capable of sending & receiving a signal from Macintosh computers with the latest firmware/software patches installed.

I did just that, let it play for a few seconds and volia! iMovie importing just fine.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. It seemed that the iBook had no problem seeing the camera, but I tried to import the video immediately, rather than do what you said.
