Half way thru zero drive to external firewire disc, the building I'm in had a power failure. After the power returned my donk automatically returned but without the external, except for a curious dialogue I've never encountered before. The dialogue box told me that Mac osx does'nt recognise my external and offered me 2 choices neither have overcome my grief, ignore (highlighted) or intitialize (not highlighted) but I thought that was the best choice.

It annoyed me, hey I thought 'initialize' meant that some magic was gonna happen but nothing happened.
then went thru the routine - rebooted thinking something was amiss tried it again - still nothing........rebooted clicked ignore...still nothing.

Searched my drives for a utility that doesn't seem to exist.

But having exhausted all options, I seek guidance

THANK YOU SPHERIC HARLOT

yes I knew that that was the app, but its taken about 8 hours or until now for disc utility to even acknowledge the existence of the external and that is probably because I am experiencing some major problems with my main internal.

I can't seem to find the hard copy of my Norton System Works cd so I'm a bit stuck at the moment.

thanks again
