I boot my powerbook with the lid closed and use a monitor. I installed SwitchRes X to get extra resolutions and refresh rates. So, of course I screwed up by setting the refresh rate too high. Now I'm stuck with it and my system will not boot up with the monitor. I uninstalled SwitchRes, but still the problem persists. I'm now assuming the display resolution and refresh is stored in some preference file somewhere. I need to delete this file. Does anyone know where this information is stored?

BTW, running 10.3.4. Zapped PRAM, booted into OS9, etc. Deleted the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist, etc. No love. I do not want to reinstall the OS.

Try safe mode. Power on machine, hold shift key down after startup chime while system boots.

Also might need to trash:
/Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver.[number].plist

Not sure if this is related, but quite a few people have had issues with screen rez after updating to .4. Not sure of a solution, maybe this might help.

Ah, I didn't know about that one. I deleted the one in /Library/Preferences.

My solution was to write a script to run at login that would set the resolution and refresh rate. I'll delete the file listed above next time and see if that works.

Thanks,

Brian
