When I launch ichat 2.1 AV (2nd gen dual-usb ibook 500mhz 2001, 640 ram), it behaves normally except that there is no support for audio conferencing and the 'Audio' menu is not even there. Before 10.3.4, I audio conferenced with no problem.
I just reinstalled panther to try and fix this reocurring problem, so it's pretty unlikely that it is a 3rd party issue; although I got cocky and reinstalled 10.3.4 to boot, which may be continuing my problem.
I have located a possible source of the error: when I trash com.apple.iChat.AIM.plist and launch ichat, the audio menu briefly appears but when AIM service starts, it vanishes.
(I have tried all the normal tricks before my panther re-install: repair permissions, cocktail cache/cron stuff, trashing preferences, force prebinding, logging in as a second user, etc. It acts identically under a second user account.)
Console:

Looking at the package contents of ichat,
The Resources look pretty normal, except that under english.lproj I am missing
locversion.plist
which is in all of the other folders. Copying another one over and renaming it did not change anything.
Any ideas for getting my computer back to audio conferencing?
