I know there are other posts about this, but none seem to have a step by step guide, or are out of date.
I just bought a 14 inch iBook G4 with a superdrive. I tried using toast 6 to copy a dvd (I burned it on a DVD+R), but when I played the dvd in a different player, it was all disoriented and stuff. You could make it out but it is like it had bad reception on a tv channel.
I saw 3 different softwares for this in other forums, but none said where to get it and exactly how to do it. Also, do I need DVD-R instead of DVD+R?
I assumed that when I pressed "copy" in toast 6, that would be all I have to do. Also, I read about having to decrypt some dvds, compress them, etc. If at all possible, I'd like someone to give me a complete guide on how to do this. Thanks!

You can't copy commercial DVD with Toast unless you use some intermediaries to strip the copy protection, (potentially) compress the data, and turn back into a disk image that you could then burn with Toast.

Check out this thread for more: Copying DVD Movies (which was, actually, right below your thread. )

Sorry, I saw that other post right after I posted mine and I didn't know how to remove mine. But a question that wasn't answered in there is are the DVD+R's compatible with the superdrive? I only hear about DVD-R's but I accendentally got some +R's. Is that one of the reasons its not playing?
Also, I burned a dvd that worked in one player, but it said disk error in another. Whats up with that?

While DVD+R's can be fine for most things, they are not as compatible with players as DVD-R. But I think your problems stem from the copy protection on the original DVD, and less on the format.

If you want to learn about DVD+R's and compatability, I'd suggest heading over to the Apple Support Discussions.
