Apple uses obex file transfer transfer to send files over bluetooth, but in order to install games on my soon to have V600, I need OBEX push object which no one on howardforums.com seems to be able to get working. I am wondering if there is any way to get it to work.

OBEX is a protocol - OBEX push is part of OBEX - The Apple "Bluetooth File Exchange" app uses OBEX to push files to remote devices.
simply drag the file you want to send to the phone on to the BlueTooth File Exchange app and select the v600 from the bluetooth device selection panel.
The file should then be 'pushed' into the inbox of your handset.

It also depends on what the phone is allowed to receive. I have an SE T608 and it has been setup to not allow J2ME file transfers over bluetooth. So for games, etc, I have to install them OTA.

I don't have the phone but it appears this doesn't work. I know that OBEX is a protocol.
http://www.macosxapps.com/article.ph...30605101152753
"This service sends selected plain or rich text of Cocoa applications (e.g. Textedit, Mail, Stickies, Notes, ProjectBuilder, Fire, OmniWeb or TeXShop) and of Carbon applications supporting services to BlueTooth devices supporting OBEX Object Push or OBEX File Transfer. Therefore it's possible to send notes or short messages to your handheld or your mobile phone (especially useful if your phone isn't supported by Jaguar's Addressbook and its SMS capabilities)."
Instructions:
Select a text (plain or rich) and choose the menu item "Send to Bluetooth Device..."
in the services menu. Afterwards select a BlueTooth device and channel (OBEX Object
Push or OBEX File Transfer).
That application when dragging text allows to select which method of sending you want to use. Using the apple file transfer tool only transfers ringers, walpaper, etc. In order to install games you need the push object function which doesn't appear to be selectable in apple application which defaults to Obex file transfer. I am pretty sure that it is not blocked by the phone since pc users are able to drag jar files onto a icon called something like "OBEX push object" in "My BLuetooth places" in windows.

How do you know it doesn't work if you don't have the phone? Why does "it appear" that it doesn't work?
I think you are stuck on the wrong thing, There isn't much difference between File Transfer Protocol and Push/Pull.
Both use an OBEX session and the OBEX PUT and GET commands, but File Transfer uses more OBEX commands that allow you to browse the device's filesystem.
The Apple BT transfer app allows both - you can browse devices by selecting "Browse Device" from the file menu - and you can just push files directly into the remote device's inbox using "Send File."
I've pushed many, many apps to my SE P800 via Apple's BTFileTransfer app - and it works fine.

If there is no difference between the two then why does that app let you select between the two?
I know it doesn't work because of this thread.
http://howardforums.com/showthread.p...hreadid=367992
OK, this is being discussed in several other threads so I just wanted to make it its own so people can search/look and just find stuff here. I have a mac and a v600. My powerbook has BT in it and I want to transfer .jar games to the phone but I cannot because when I use the bluetooth transfer utility (or simply the send file function) it says its invalid or the phone wont accept it. Anyone know what to do?
Followed by the response:
You are right - this has been discussed numerous times before. The reason .jar files do not work on V600 with the Send/Bluetooth option (on Mac or PC) is that it will try to send the file by 'OBEX File Transfer' which only supports multimedia files (ie .mp3, .jpg etc). You have to 'OBEX Object Push' .jar files onto the V600 for them to install as it lets the phone know the received file needs to be actioned/installed as opposed to just stored. I don't know if the Mac supports this but it is a service icon in 'My Bluetooth Places/V600' on my PC. I just drag and drop the .jar file onto the icon when an active connection is in place.
And they refer to it in this thread about how to get it working on the pc:
http://howardforums.com/showthread.p...p;pagenumber=2
Check the picture couple posts down that shows the push file folder.

Ah.... I see.
So there is a bug in Apple's BT FT app. I'd submit a bug if I were you.
I'd be interested if you could test this:
http://www.diggory.net/grazing/ThinAir.zip
It's a very basic test app that will transfer a file called "test.jar" from your desktop to a bt device.
The UI is really bad - press "choose" once to select the remote device - then click on the device's name in the TableView (you only need to click once - not double-click!) to send the test file.
Digs.

hmmmmm, that actually worked , well sort off.
I renamed one of my gamefiles to Test.jar and when I opend the app. and clicked on the device it made a connection and transfered the file Test.jar but to where is a mystery . when I then checked if the file is in my games folder on my phone the phone switched itself off. After I turned it back on there was no sign of the file anywhere.
So progress has been made. There was no error about unknown file type like with the apple transfer tool. All we have to do is figure out why the game file reset the phone. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the game file had to have its name changed. I know in Java, the file name must match the class name. Any way we can get an app that can select a game file?

Hmm - I wasn't expecting it to turn the phone off!
I suspect it could be to do with the renaming too. (Although I know nothing about Java)
I'll fiddle about and get you something that can send a specified file. (although no promises on timescale....)
Digs.

OK,
Try re-downloading ThinAir - I have tweaked it a bit - you now send by clicking the 'send' button, not by clicking in the TableView.
Also - you choose which file is sent by typing the path into the textField.

Check this out:
Well, I just played the games I just installed and it seems to be fine. My phone hasn't crashed on me nor has it restarted.
The only thing is when I try to install another .jar file, the program crashes. I just restart it and install again. A hassle, but worth it!
I'm gonna continue on installing games...
So we have one confirmation that your program works. Just waiting for more.

Mosco first of all thanks for sharing this app with us, this was something I was really looking forward to acccomplish to finaly getting games onto my phone with my Mac.
Also to the Developer a big Thank you
The only small little problem I can see, is the crashing after trying to transfer additional games.
(just a small note the file path should read " ~/Desktop/blah blah.jar"
Desktop with a Capital "D". sorry for nitpicking)
Again, we all thank you for writing this app. in one of the threads where someone posted that they were having a problem doing this, someone said, "the first problem is you use a mac", so its huge for mac users to be able to do this and I know on that board there are many v600 users. Thank you again.

I've been looking into the crashing when sending the second file:
There is a work-around until I Work out how to solve the problem:
Wait until the BT connection has gone down completely before sending again- this happens a few seconds after the software has disconnected.
(the BT menu bar icon changes to indicate connection status.)
