I wasn't sure whether it fits better in the Software or Peripherals forum, but Tivo now offers Tivo Desktop functionality for free. Go here for setup instructions and download link.
It doesn't support AAC so most of my music won't play, but the Photo viewing is nice. Too bad you can't play music at the same time and iTunes play counts aren't updated.
It should nicely augment my Airport Express that I have on order. Lack of AAC support is a deal-killer right now, but since TiVo Desktop is now free, the price is right for MP3 users.

I remember that they were charging an outrageous amount of money for it a year back. Wonder what made them change?

Airport Express/Airtunes. Which *will* play your AAC protected files.

He was talking about Tivo... which doesn't play AAC. Naturally Apple would have AAC via. AirPort Express.

I think his point was that Airtunes may have caused the price drop / whatever you call this?

I'm sure the Airport Express didn't help, but I'm betting the primary reason they made the HMO available is that TiVo (the company) is in trouble and need all the hardware upgrades they can get. This announcement coincides with a price reduction on their Series 2 units and the announcement from DirecTV that they've divested themselves of all TiVo shares.

I think it had more to do with the announcement that TiVo would start offering video & audio downloads to compete with NetFlix and wants its users to get used to viewing multimedia content before the service rolls out. Until TiVo Desktop works with AAC, it can't compete directly with Airport Express, and even then, unless TiVo provides more options in its audio playback, it would be a poor substitute because it has far fewer options than iTunes for playback.
