Hi folks. I have almost fully understood the construction of a DMG file. One stomper here is when using disk utility on OS X I am only given the option of creating a DMG file that is 5 megabytes at the smallest. I only want to place around 1.2 megs worth of information. The result is that I have to get people to download a 5 meg DMG that is 3.8 megs of useless fat. So if anybody could help out I would appreciate it to the 10th power! Thank You : )

You can use Disk Utility to convert the 5MB disk image to a compressed disk image. You can also do the same in the Terminal with hdiutil with even higher compression ratio than the default. Type "man hdiutil" for more info.

Use DMG Tool (available on VersionTracker) to do the compressing. Go into its preferences and turn the compression all the way up. This is probably the easiest way to make compressed disk images.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
