I like using the playcount for smartlists and keeping track of what music i've listened too and what i haven't. Anyway, its frustrating when i've listened to about a minute or two of a song and either get sick of it, or just want to change to a new track. But when I do this before the track finishes, iTunes doesn't recognize that the song has been listened too. I think a good idea would be to add a preference that allows the user to set the definition of the playcount -- such as registering the song as have been played after a minute of listening.
--Just submited via feedback. Anyone else get frustrated by this? Especially when you have some 10+ minute songs that after about 8 minutes usually get changed....

yes, please. I tend to skip ahead to the end of a song sometimes instead of just pressing next so that it can get a playcount.

Agreed. I have an "Unrecent hits" SPL that plays songs that haven't been played in 2 weeks and are 3 stars or higher. I wish a song would be counted as played if I had listened to it for at least xx seconds. Good idea!

As an option: Yes, great idea!
But I would ask that they place nested folder above that as anything over 30 playlists and everything is a mess.

As long as it is only a preference it is fine for me. But preferences must not get to crowed while an app evolves.
I feel that one only listened to a song if it was played completely from beginning to end. Even skipping a part should not result in an increased playcount :-).
One thing I wondered is how to correctly set the time of last playback. Currently iTunes uses the time when playback is finished. But shouldn't it rather be the time that the playback started?

You just said that you haven't "listened" to a song until after it has played in its entirety. Logical consistency then requires that the "last played time" is at the moment the song ends.
At the very least, the last played time should be updated at the same time as the playcount is incremented; I think everyone can agree that the playcount should only be incremented after the song is over.

Excellent idea. I've wanted this for a while... a lot of songs have long fade-outs that I don't feel like listening to over and over and over and over again. Or they have a lot of applause or just plain silence at the end before actually ending. If it were up to me I'd increment the play count after the song is 1/2 done. So if I listen to it a little and then skip ahead, it doesn't count it, but if I listen to most of it and finally decide to skip the ending, it does count.
