In previous versions of iTunes, once you reordered your list or had it randomize, you could right-click and select "Copy to Play Order" and the current order would become the new play order (i.e. after unchecking random, it stayed as it was instead of reverting back).
Is it just me or is that contextual menu item no longer there?

I think "Add to Party Shuffle" is what you're looking for. Maybe they changed the name of the menu item? (I don't know as I haven't used it before.)

Nice thing about "Copy to Play Order" was that it also worked on iPod play-lists. You could set playback to random, "Copy to Play Order" and effectively have a random playlist on the Pod without having the extra battery drain that results from random play on the Pod. If "Copy to Play Order" is missing from iTunes 4.6, I may just wait a little longer before updating.

damn - I never knew the "copy to play order" was there in previous versions, but it does indeed appear to be missing from 4.6
As a workaround I tried making a large mix called, e.g., "Workout", hitting random, and then selecting all the songs and dragging them to a new playlist called "Workout*" - the new list retains the random order...

In iTunes 4.5 and later, you'll need to right-click the actual playlist in iTunes' source field for the 'Copy to play order' command to appear. ;-)

I'll give that a try.
Here's how I use it: I have a playlist that I sort in reverse order of when the songs were added to my library - so new songs are always at the top in iTunes. However, every time you make a change to that list and sync with my iPod - the iPod displays the songs with the oldest first. If I simply do a "copy to play order" on the list in iTunes and then sync again, it shows up how I want it on the iPod...
glad to know this feature is still here.
