Hello, I am using Office X 10.1.4 (latest version before 2004)

Lately when I am in a Word document, I cannot highlight a word or section and use the delete key to remove the highlighted section. The delete key does work for single letters as a backspace key, but not when I select with the mouse and try to delete using just the delete key. I can still cut with the cut command but I'm wondering what's going on and if I can fix it ....

I have deleted Word Prefs for the user affected but it didn't help. Other accounts are unaffected and the delete key works.

Check the preferences - under Edit, make sure 'typing replaces selection' is checked.

Oh and there was 10.1.5 before 2004. Can't remember what it changed but the update to it was much smaller than the one to 10.1.4.

Thank you , thank, thank, you. It worked!

As far as the update, 10.1.5 was for some of the other apps in Office. Word remains at .4

Thanks again!

Wow, I'm a bit overwhelmed ! Sure ... no worries!

Ahh, I guess I never really checked that, although it does ring a slight bell. I feel it's a bit of a strange thing for them to have done, either way.
