So, I was some what *inspired* by an application that one of my coworkers described for me that ran on OS 9. It would let a lab admin see what was happening on each of the individual lab machines. So, I whipped a little server-client setup that tries to do that:
http://homepage.mac.com/fahrenba/labBuddy.zip
One machine would have the LabBuddyMonitor installed and running and the individual client machines would each have the LabBuddyClient installed (automatically launched as a login hook). The LabBuddyMonitor currently expires on the 20th.
Just wanting to get some opinions, see if there are any glaring errors, bugs, etc.
Thanks,
Matt Fahrenbacher

Just wondering...

Wow, nevermind.
That's why I'll never try to come up with an original idea again.

Well... the only *possible* advantage is that you can lock a machine down... although ARD might be able to do that...
How about 1 cent a license...

No, no, no...don't throw it away like that Matt, it's cool; however, I was just wondering what the differences are (pricing?)...
Trust me, if this is free little app/utility, ALOT of people would be interested. ARD client is free; however, the "Admin" application that is needed to monitor/control is costly...

Sure, go for it!
Don't get me wrong, ARD is pretty powerful/feature packed (and supposedly ARD v2.0 is due out any day now with MAJOR improvements and advances), but if people want something minimal that does the trick w/out all the bells and whistles for next to nothing...you got yourself a winner!
And oh yeah, I'll give this a test tomorrow at work on a few machines and keep you posted.

Seriously mate, I wouldn't give up on this. I would love a simple solution like this to be worked on further, possibly freeware at first, but even to become shareware once it has a few more features.
