dont know if this subject ever has been discussed (didn't fnd it when doin a search).

Just checked the 3 most played songs here in tunes and here is my result:
  • 105 times for "Go Ahead London" by "The Rapino Brothers"
  • 61 times for "Smoked Glass And Chrome" by "Ott"
  • 57 times for "Sunrise" by "Young American Primitives"

Guess I played them more often, but the counter has been reset due to different reasons i can't explain.

Whats your score?

cheers - John

Well I've got Finlay Quaye - Dice on 279
Drowning Pool - Bodies on 182
The Distillers - Love Is Paranoid on 127

But I think something went wrong the first time I synced my itunes and ipod played data.

Positive it shouldn't be that high for those ones!

Ugh. First uptime, now play counts. I never look at mine, and they probably aren't correct anyway since I play through my iPod 99% of the time.

The iPod stores playcounts and syncs them with iTunes.

2. "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" by Wilco (44)

Only if you have them set to automatically update. I don't have 100% of my music on my iPod so I don't get synching.

I had a couple songs in the 30's when I got hit by a car while riding my bike, and crushed the old iPod. New one has maybe 15-20 plays of the top songs.

My max playcount is about 9 or so. I have 7000 songs at the moment so they don't get picked all that much. And I switch a lot between songs when they aren't finished. AND I have an iPod mini, which is not enough for my 30GB library so no syncing .

let's see here

1. police - so lonely
2. beatles - julia
3. grateful dead - friend of the devil

although i really don't think the playcount is very accurate because i have 4700 + songs and i tend to use shuffle and let it play. every once in a while i will come back to it. also, i have noticed that itunes only stores a tally on the playcount if you play the song to the end. considering my impatient add self that does not happen too often.

Crowded House - Weather with You (19)
Eva Cassidy - Kathy's Song (19)
The Coral - Dreaming of You (18)

...Oh yeah, and top of the list is...Alarm clock (12047)

No, that's not a mistake. It's a one-second recording of a digital alarm clock going "beep-beep-beep" which is played by a cron job at 7:30 every weekday morning!

The rest are so low because I've got nigh on 3000 songs which I leave on random/shuffle all the time.

Right now, it's Island Life by Janet Jackson (127), but I reset my playcounts on 1/1/04, since I wanted to start my top 10 over.

If your iPod can't hold your entire library, why don't you just make an "iPod" playlist and have it automatically sync only that? That way you can customize what's on your iPod and still get playcounts. That's what I do--I have 12GB of music and a 5GB iPod.

Umm, not sure...iTMS to the rescue! Yes, the very same. I never knew who sang it before Eva Cassidy, but I've totally fallen in love with that song. I first heard it at university when I went into a semi-random girl's room in my hall, fell in love with her too. Still not sure if the two facts are related or not!!

98 Everybody e.w.i.

Or if you prefer check out the whole collection.

Some big petpeeves of mine as far as iTunes goes... importing a library ignores play counts/last played date. So if you change computers your playcounts get trashed. No good way to sync playcounts between multiple computers. iPod does not update playcounts/last played dates if the playlist has updated at all. So if you sync a smart playlist, listen to a song or let the date rollover or something that changes the playlist at all when you resync none of the data will come off of your ipod.

Not a huge deal (still some glaring rough edges) if they're just vanity stats, but smartplaylists (one of iTunes' best features) aren't nearly as useful when you can't reliably use play count or last played data.

What's all this talk about iPods not syncing? When I had my 5gb iPod, I had 5 or 6 playlists that synced with the iPod. Playcounts were updated appropriately. (FYI Playcounts and ratings are stored in the iTunes Library.xml and iTunes Library file found in the iTunes folder in your music library). As for changing playlists screwing up synchronization, I haven't noticed this. Even if I sync my iPod weeks apart, it will update when songs were last played and the play counts correctly, despite changes I may have made to playlists. It will even correctly update files if I change the name or add album art.

For the poster re-ripping your collection, if you keep the name and information the same as the files you're replacing, iTunes gives you the option to replace the files. This way it will keep your play count and rating. However beats per minute and album art are lost.

Back on topic
India Arie : Talk to her -> 112
John Mayer : New Deep -> 97
Justin Timberlake : Still On My Brain -> 91
John Mayer : Daughters -> 87
Guy Sebastian : No One Can Compare To You -> 83
Eyan : Back to Life -> 73
John Mayer : Neon -> 70
John Mayer : No Such Thing -> 67
Angie Stone : Easier Said Than Done -> 66
India Arie : Interested -> 65

I would have never guessed this (Since the number one played hasn't been played since 4/25/04. I am surprised that Justin Timberlake gets played so much

I haven't re-ripped music that often so you're probably right. However I'm 100% sure that beats per minute needs to be re-done.

My last known playcounts thanks to a playlist export...

Dissovled Girl 68
Don't Panic 51
I've Just Seen A Face 49

When 10.3.4 came out I ended up resetting playcounts and ratings and am trimming 7000 some-odd songs down so I keep other things on my ipod too besides music (could upgrade to a 40GB but no money.)

I have a 30GB now but when I had more music than room on my 1st-gen 10GB I would mark the songs I wanted to bring with me in the comments with "ipod" then make a smart playlist to get all the songs with the comment "ipod" and cap the playlist it at about 8GB picked randomly.
