Just this morning I got 40 (forty) pieces of junkmail all the exact same...

Mail body

I have no idea where this came from, I haven't sent any mail for a few days, I translated the German and it is a bunch of spammy gibberish.

I just received another 32 of these and it seems like Mail (or something) is trying to send that message to tons of fake addresses.

The whole lot of em...

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening all of a sudden? Any help would be appreciated.

Some scum sucking spammer is using your email address. And they must have used it at least 40 times.

I've had the same thing happen to me only not as many and not in German. Not a whole lot you can do about it other than change your email address and never post it anywhere the spam address bots can get to it. Of course, if you send email to a Windows person and your address gets added to their address book, one of those wonderful viruses can harvest it and you're back to square one.

Your email address has been used as a by someone sending tons of spam, possibly as a return address or even incorrectly as a forwarding address. It may have been harvested in any number of ways, including from some Windows user you've corresponded with, an online vendor who sold their mailing lists, or many other possible ways.

You can let the postmaster of each domain you receive failure notices from know that your address was hijacked, but it isn't really necessary; they recognize this pattern and don't think you sent the spam.

The messages should stop after a while-maybe as long as a couple of weeks. Just delete them, as they're no use to anyone except to tell you that your address has been misused. It's kind of like having the pigeons crap on your car...

Thanks for the info guys, guess I'll just wait it out.

Changing the email address isn't the best option since it's my .mac address and I use it for school/friends.

Damn Windows-people.

It is the Sober.H (alias Trojan.Ascetic.A) virus, which is a version of Sober recently appropriated by Neo-Nazi groups to deliver a huge flood of hate-spam.

It only affects machines already infected with Sober.G

I'd link to the informative heise.de articles, but they're in German...

Well that's an interesting update! I haven't gotten any of the previous messages yet today (got them yesterday morning the first time) so hopefully things have blown over.

Always with the nazis
