Ok, so I've made myself I nice little stationary pad in the finder for printing envelopes - I double click on it and in creates a copy and I enter address info, just as a good template should. However, the finder insists on auto-saving a document called (e.g.) "Letter Template copy" to the same directory immediately. Is there any way to keep the finder from doing this? (i.e. to make it open a new, untitled document based on the stationary pad document?) It's annoying to either have to rename the document or delete it so frequently....

yes, I've looked at many of the third party solutions, and actually I'm trying to write my own Applescript versions that will run as Address Book plug-ins, but since AppleScript can't access too many formatting options in TextEdit (page size, alignment, etc.) I'm trying to accomplish the same thing using templates created in TextEdit

Gotcha, sounds cool! You may want to PM "Sal" and ask him, he's definitely the AppleScript guru around here and he may have an idea on how to stop that auto-saving...
