i have a small dilemma. tomorrow i have to give a presentation, i have created a presentation in keynote.

the only thing i can see going wrong is if for *some* bizarre reason my powerbook won't work with the projector.
if that is the case then i will have to use the pc that is currently connected to the projector, and that only has powerpoint.
i will be going in early tomorrow to see if i can get my powerbook to work. but if it does not i will export the keynote to powerpoint and burn it to a cd and do the presentation from the pc.

my question is this. does anyone know if a keynote exported to powerpoint will work fine on a pc version of powerpoint?
i understand about the fact that there is no transparency and nice transitions.

the other question is this. if i export it to a 1024x768 quicktime movie, the one where you click to go to the next slide. will this work fine on a pc or do you need quicktime pro or anything "non standard"?

thank you very much

From what I have seen, you won't have a problem exporting to PowerPoint and using on Windows; however, some things (such as some charts) may transfer over a little weird...but overall, everything should be just fine!

Not sure on the QT question; however, I see that being just fine as well. Also, the ".pdf" export option would probably work very well on the Windows side...

You'll be fine.

Last month I had to give a talk and the piece of s--t projector they had there just would not work on my rev. c 12" PB. The PB would see that it was attached; even had the name of the projector via DDC info, but the projector wouldn't display a thing. Tried all the refresh settings and resolutions. Nada. Restarts of both PB and projector... I spent a good 20 minutes trying everything. Really pissed me off too, as one guy said, "We're not too Mac-friendly around here." F*cker.

This projector was a bit weird. Can't remember the brand, but it was a few years old, 800x600 max., and connected via an odd cable - DVI-I at the projector end and VGA at the computer end. I tried it with the hybrid cable (and the PB's VGA dongle) and with a standard DVI cable (and the DVI dongle). Zippo.

So, of course, I had to export the Keynote talk to PowerPoint, put it on my keyring flash drive and load it on the POS PC they had (which, of course, worked fine with the projector). Lost all videos and many pictures in the conversion process. I could have exported as a QT movie, but didn't have the time to wait for it to render, nor was I sure the PC had any modern version of QuickTime installed.

Finally, someone wheeled in a 17" CRT. Since it was a small group, this turned out OK. Of course, the CRT worked instantaneously.

So ALWAYS check and have a backup plan.

thanks for that info.
i managed to get hold of someone and i am able to go in a few hours early today to see if i can get my powerbook to work with the projector. if not i will render the quicktime movie and try it out on his pc. worst case scenario i export it to powerpoint and cringe at how ugly it makes it

To expand the discussion a bit...

1) anyone want to suggest what brands of projectors usually *do* work with iBook/PBook ? (so I could ask questions before planning a presentation?)

2) Ideas of reasonably priced/portable projectors that I should look at buying to connect with a 'Book?

1.) Epson and InFocus seem to work fairly well, I have used a Toshiba (not sure of the model #) in the past as well just fine...

2.) What is reasonably priced? I find them all to be expensive at $1,000+ for a quality one. Have you checked out what the Apple Store has to offer?
