There are lots of utilities out there. Do a search at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

He said search VersionTracker or MacUpdate for such utilities, not "This subject has come up numerous times and you should have done a search first."...thanks anyways

I hate to say this but... Come on How Cheap can you be? I use PodWorks and it's 8 bucks. Well worth the money. 8 Dollars, is NOTHING compared to what some shareware apps can cost. If it's something you plan on using all the time 8 dollars truly is nothing. I use Podworks so much that it's paid for itself more than the price of admission. Also it's nice to help out developers of programs like this.

PHENOMENAL program. I used it to use my iPod's database to preserve ratings and playcounts when I switched from iTunesPC to a Mac.

Indeed, they're generous with the trial (Who needs to use it 10 times?). I used it ONCE, and paid for it as a "thank you." Given all the time I spent on ratings/playcounts on my PC, the $10 was well worth it.

I thought iPod & iTunes were supposed to seamlessly integrate together? Or at least that is Apple's marketing strategy. Am I missing something?

You can't copy songs from the iPod to the Mac directly. What would stop me from taking my iPod to my buddy's house and copying all my music to his Mac?

I use PodUtil, which isn't free but it does a damn fine job. I use it now and then to copy my music collection to my external hard drive as a backup as I don't keep the music on the hard drive.
That way, I can have extra space on the hard drive (about 19GB of music and Audible.com audio books right now) and still have peace of mind in case the iPod is every lost or stolen.
That said, there are cheap alternatives out there but I'd rather spend a few bucks and get something I know works and that works the way I want it to.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

I agree, PodWorks is, by far, the best I've tried.

I told the guy to search because there are probably many dozens of free ones, and none of them are all that great. If you can't point to a specific one and say "this is the best" then you might as well point to the group and say "pick from these."
