hey all,
I just got an iMac today. Mostly everything is fine except for the speakers that came with it.
Heres the deal.
I bought a Macaddict magazine, and I popped in the disk that came with it. I wanted to see if you could turn down the volume from either the speakers or the iMac. So, I moved the computer about half a centimeter. It shut down on me. I turned it back on,
and now whenever every single sound that comes out of the speakers skips. (Its choppy, and the volume turns up and down by itself).
Please help, advice on what to do is appreciated.

you need to tell us more about what you've done.
You "moved the computer a half a centimeter" and it shut down?
Like it came unplugged?
What MacAddict CD did you put in - did you expect it to play music or did you want to install some sort of sound control software or what? Did it get largely installed?
We just need more info to help....

I put in the July disc 2004.
I moved the computer so I could see if there was a volume control.
Thats when the computer shut down.
The reason im concerned about this is because in the iMac Users guide it says this:
Warning: Shut down your iMac befoe moving it. Moving your computer while the hard disk is spinning can damage the hard disk, causing loss of data or the inability to start up from the hard disk.
If you still need more info please lt me know.

my apple pro speakers are really hard to plug into my powermac, maybe its the same for your imac. If you haven't tried, try unplugging and plugging them back in. If nothing happens call up the place you got them from and complain.

ok - the moving the computer thing is only a problem if you hard drive got out of whack - which it doesn't sound like happened.
Mostly it seems like you moved it in such a way that the plug either came out of the wall, or out of the back of the computer. It's a bad idea to do this, but it should not have caused any real damage.
Next, you put the disk in, - did you do anything with it? Run programs on it, install anything, or you just put it in? (If all you did was put it in, it could not have anything to do with your current problems...
Next, please double-check your speaker connections - are they firmly plugged in? (you may want to make sure your other cables are properly connected as it seems that maybe you didn't have your power cord plugged all the way in if it shut off by being moved only half a centimeter...
Next, please tell us more about what sounds are choppy and what exactly you mean by "choppy." Can you play a song in iTunes? Does the song skip? What about alert sounds?

also, (so you don't have to go looking again), there are lots of ways to adjust the volume of your speakers - if you prefer physical controls, use the volume keys on your keyboard.

I played a video that was about 1 minute long, thats when I moved it and, it shur down.
I cant play a sound in iTunes
What I mean by choppy is, When i click on something that has sound It skips alot. I can hear it for about one second, then the volume fades, and the music starts jumping continuously. I can hardly hear my aleat sounds.
I unplugged my whole computer and made sure that each plug was in correctly, and still, nothing works.

Ok, so you were playing a video and that's when the computer got unplugged. Since you weren't installing any weird sound software or anything we can safely assume that it's not software related.
When you say you can't play a sound in iTunes, what do you mean? (usually you play songs in iTunes, not just random sounds).
Honestly it sounds like you haven't properly plugged things in, or that you moved things more than a "half a centimeter" and dropped the speakers or even the imac on the floor...
What sorts of "things that have sound" are you clicking on? Are you running a lot of programs that are eating up your processor time? (this can cause skipping, but not weird volume problems).
