After using Safari for a time, all of a sudden i can't search for anything, Safari just refuses to go anywhere, even backwards. It's like it becomes bogged down, and I have to quit it, and then restart the app, then it works alright for a while. Bloat!! Or what?

I've been beachballing for a while now, was Safari updated when 10.3.4 was released? I don't remember... It beachballs me when it shouldn't be having to work at all.
It's bad enough it leaks memory like there's a prize if it uses up all of your RAM, but it's made just surfing an annoyance (I'd switch to Firefox right now if it didn't have text issues--plus it doesn't have my bookmarks).

I've had the same problem for as long as I can remember using it. iChat is the same way.
Very unfortunate.

There's a thread on here somewhere (sorry to lazy to look myself! ) about deleting favicons to speed up safari - its only a temporary measure but it works wonders!

I can't find the exact thread you're talking about, but I did save the Terminal command.
find $HOME/Library/Safari/Icons -type f -atime +30 -name "*.cache" -delete
Just copy and past that into Terminal.
