Hi all,
occasionally my wife attaches a word file (.doc) from her pc at work to our mac at home. When I open the message in mail, I see the attached zip file (the work email system automatically zips all attachments) but when I double click to open the file, it gives me an error,
unable to unarchive "xxxxxx.zip" into ///xxxxx.mimeattache"
I can right click and "open with" stuffit, and it gives me the option to save the file, which it will do. however, if I right click and open with BOMArchive helper (no idea what that is) it gives the same error. I can't find BOMArchive helper in applications anywhere, is it a built in helper program for apple?
Is there any way I can setup mail to just open the file in word for me.
Thanks,
J.

The BOMArchive helper is built into the system (you can find it somewhere in the System folder).
No way to just make the file automatically open in word - thought you could write an applescript to do everything in one step for you.

Probably this happens because it's trying to expand the file in-place, where it can't really write. You could try drag-and-dropping the file icon out of the mail message and onto your desktop, then double-clicking it there, where it will probably successfully expand the archive.
