I remember in mac os 9 you could do things like rebuild the desktop and with stuff like norton you could optimize your hard drive. I have about a 30gig drive and was wondering how to improve its speed through just mac utilities?

the thing is, you don't need to in OS X. The hard drive is defragmented on the fly, & there is no necessary equivalent to rebuilding the desktop...
