Stable? Yes, it's stable, reasonably. Sometimes opening files makes the apps quit for no apparent reason, but it always now asks you to send the bug reports to MS, which is nice if they read and take note!

Basically for the moment I'd say update if you need any of the new features, otherwise stay with v.X if it is working fine for you and wait until we've had a free update or two to 2004 to improve stability a bit.

I keep it open pretty constantly and it has not frozed or quit once.

I'm in Excel all day, every day. Been using 2004 for about 3 weeks. It has unexpectedly quit almost every day since upgrading, and most days it's done it multiple times. To its credit, it has adequately recovered the files that were open every time. Stable? Not yet, for me.

More annoying than the crashes is that preferences refuse to stick. Toolbars keep resetting to default as do several other preferences that I've set.

Try deleting the Excel preferences. I believe that will solve your problem.

I've found MS Office on OS X to be completely stable, save for one thing: sensitivity to corrupted fonts. Anyone having stability problems should revert to the OS-included fonts, test it that way, and then add the other fonts in one at a time to see which one(s) causes the problem.

I only use Word, but it's been pretty stable since I upgraded from v.X. Although the transparent menus are pretty lame (and completely inconsistent).

All glory to the hypnotoad.
