I don't believe that is supported at this time.

You cannot initiate the direct connect, they can. It works sometimes, sometimes it does not. We are working on this.

I stand corrected

[Probably shouldn't have answered the question on the basis that I don't use AIM that much ]

What does Direct Connect do? In other words, why would you want to do it rather than just use the client/sever model assuming it simply does what it's name implies?

^ yeah .. what they said .. =P .. basically, when i was still on my windows machine alot, i mainly used aim .. (no ichat, rarely icq'ed, didnt like msn messenger) .. i used aim to direct connect .. but i hated mac's aim interface. i mainly used ichat to chat ... then i found adium, and i added my sbc and icq accounts to it .. just in case. if there's one request, it'd be to make direct connect work (where's the command to initiate?) and also, to have the offline buddylist viewable (with a triangle so we can minimize it into a folder/group so it doesnt clog the list). sometimes i need to tell someone a buddylist name and i cant find it on adium. i love the interface though .. and the flapping mascot with a name flashing when i get a message is just plain cool... =)

You can show/hide Offline Contacts from the View menu, they don't get their own group but you can specify a custom label for them.

As for the UI I couldn't agree more. I contributed my first Xtra yesterday; a custom contact list to go with the Shinobi Shapeshifter theme. I think it looks pretty cool :-)
