When using Illstrator and I select the text and highlight parts of that text, the highlight does ont get colored. It stays white. So basically the highlighting is there, if I start typing the text changes and get edited, but I do not see what is hilighted.

What can be wrong here?

It's not a silly question. Mine does the same and I hadn't figured it out yet. Thanks for the answer.

Command-H, huh? I usually had to restart illustrator to correct the problem.

Yeah, my boss had this problem today. He came to ask me this question and I could not believe that Illustrator would do that on his computer. I thought that he would need a permission repair or something.

Then he looked it up online and found the answer quicker than me. :-)
That is what I posted. Anyhow. I did not know Illustrator had this option...does not make much sense to me and it is definitely good to know.

I am glad that it helped a few people out here. :-)

That option is really a bit silly, at least how it works with text selections (and they don't even bother to add an option to save multiple workspaces)...

I just ran across the bug again... and command+H didn't do a thing. cursor didn't appear at all. The strange thin is, when I switched back to Illustrator from typing this in Safari, everything went back to normal. So, maybe switching apps plus command+H may provide some temporary relief from this.

I use cmd-H all the time!
Sometimes you want to be able to move elements without having to see all the points and lines of the object you have selected. Just hit cmd-H and you're set.
I don't use it as often for text but there are indeed times when I do find it useful.
